Sprint GT.
This early Sprint GT had been looked after by Victory Garage for the last few years and after an initial de-bodge (there were many), a thorough service and set up it ran reliably and very well.
Now in new ownership it is being totally rebuilt and uprated for pre’66 historic racing next season.
The shell has been stripped of every component and blasted with dry ice pellets. This process removes paint without distorting the panels and also removes the soft underseal and sound deadening which other blasting techniques can’t touch.
The bare shell proved to be very sound and only needed light repairs. Small mods were made in GTA stlye to front panel, door handle/buttons and rear number plate plinth. A full repaint has just been completed and all components have been rebuilt and restored ready for assembly. Track outings are planned for Spring 2012.
Sprint GTC
This very rare right hand drive Sprint GTC was found locally and bought for a customer based in Asia. A complete strip down commenced in the late summer whereupon the body was blasted of all paint, filler, rust, underseal and sound deadening. Again, dry ice was used on the more delicate panels. Also, the soft underseal and sound deadening get the ice treatment as they become hard and brittle and break away revealing the undamaged metal beneath so saving hours of removal by hand.
Unfortunately, the shell had had many poor repairs in the past and owing to the unique and largely hand made modifications done at the Touring works in Milan to all GTC’s the best man for the shell restoration was deemed to be John Holden at Pure Bodies. His in depth knowledge of Alfa 105 bodyshell design meant the body would return to the workshop just right. Assembly will begin in Spring 2012.
GIULIA SUPER CORSA
This Giulia Super had seen hard use in the classic racing world over the last twenty years and came in for a full rebuild and repaint. The shell was stripped and blasted which revealed some corrosion to the sills and old repairs done in haste to get to the next race.
Once the bodywork was completed reassembly commenced with a fresh Gripper rear axle, a finely made and beautifully fitting stainless exhaust system from Alfaholics, Lexan side and rear windows, Alfaholics aluminium race tank and up to date safety equipment. Everything else was double checked for serviceability and renewed if thought to be lacking. New dashboard and control box layouts were devised for better visibility and ease of use.
See it race in the new AROC series this season.
